VETERAN POPULAR TEACHER OF ISLAMPUR KEPT ASIDE FROM FELICITATION

Webdesk, TNI Siliguri, 06th September, 2016: A major unexpected event happened last Sunday at Islampur. The much respected and State Government honored former Head Master of Islampur High School Mr. Prem Bihari Thakur has kept aside in the Sub Divisional Teacher’s day program. In the year 1989 and 1990, Mr. Prem Bihari Thakur was honored as the Best Teacher by the then Education Minister Late Mr. Kanti Biswas of Government of West Bengal. The teacher’s day program was organized by the sub-divisional administration at Elahi Baksh High School of Goalpokhor. The chief guest in this school was the state minister Mr. Golam Rabbani, who was also the ex-student of Mr. Thakur. Many former and present teachers were felicitated in the Teacher’s Day program. However, the most acclaimed teacher of Islampur Mr. Prem Bihari Thakur remained in oblivion. The teaching community of Islampur is feeling uneasy in such a major faux pas. The 93-year-old Mr. Prem Bihari Thakur is staying in his house and don’t come out very often. Though in this age he is not suffering from any major ailment yet he likes to remain indoors.

However, he felt disappointed in the incident. He also expressed disappointed that no one now comes at his house even on Teacher’s Day. However, Mr. Gouranga Chouhan, the secretary of the Program Committee also expressed realized the mistake after learning it from the press. He took the responsibility of the goof up and also said that the mistake had occurred due to the under-preparedness in such a short time. He assured the press that the administration would felicitate the Veteran teacher within few days at his house.
